![]() ![]() ![]() To me, this song sounds like someone who is in denial and they know it, but can't quite face it. If someone feels like it's "too late" they either have horrible low self esteem, thinking no one else will want them, or they are "staying together for the kids" which is usually a horrible idea.Įven the line, "I can see that you're happy to be stuck with me" sounds like wishful thinking at best. ![]() "We thought about breaking up, but now we know it's much too late" It's never too late to break up with someone if they are treating you poorly. Yes every relationship has some of these, but to what extent? This reminds me of a battered wife who keeps telling herself it's worth it to stay because of the good times, when her man isn't drunk off his ass and isn't using her as an excuse and/or punching bag. "That's the way it's supposed to be", referring to having "ins and outs". If you have doubts about someone but you don't face them, you're asking for trouble down the road. "We've had our doubts, but we never took them seriously" - This is one of the most telling lines. ![]() Consider the person who is in an abusive relationship but can't bring themselves to leave for whatever reason (family, their kids, etc.) The title itself, while most probably consider it "cute" to say they are stuck with each other, it's actually pretty sad. To me, it sounds like it was written by someone who is in denial about how crappy their partner is. But I was thinking about the lyrics recently, and I think it means something else. When I was a kid, I always enjoyed this song, mostly due to the upbeat music and the silly video. (Ooh, wa-ooh) I'm happy to be stuck with you (Ooh, yes, it's true) I'm so happy to be stuck with you We are bound by all the rest (ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh) (Ooh, wa-ooh) We thought about breaking up We thought about breaking up, now we know it's much too lateĪnd we've had our ins and outs (ooh, wa-ooh) We thought about someone else, but neither one took the bait Not everyone can be loved like they really want someone to love them, but if you stick with the one that's true, they'll be happy to stick with you. We've had some fun, and yes we've had our ups and downsīeen down that rocky road, but here we are, still around But that's the way, it's supposed to be." Loving someone is supposed to be a very serious thing. Here's a little bit of what Huey Lewis wants you to understand: "We've had our doubts. Because you never know the next might be that much harder.Ībove all else, you should be happy with whom you're with. It is trying to teach that we should all try and make a relationship work. The song is trying to teach all of us something. The song does describe more positivity than anything else. A lot of relationships are that way in fact. The song speaks of a relationship that has had a few bad times. 'Stuck With You' is a whimsical love song that's about being with someone, or 'stuck' with someone if you want to put it that way. Even though the band isn't producing record hits like it once did, the band's earlier music is still very popular. The band seen success from MTV and as well as been featured on the sci-fi classic, Back to the Future. Huey Lewis & the News is an awesome rock band from the '80s. ![]()
